MOOCs
Has anyone ever been enrolled in a MOOC before? What was the experience like? Would you do it again? Would you recommend it to a friend?
Christine, taking a MOOC changed the course of my life. LOL. I took: Learning Design for the 21st Century Curriculum and it was the best learning experience I have ever had. After the course I joined several course participants in co-authoring a paper Signals of Success and Self-directed Learning, the process was very intense and relationships formed will be life-long. Another fantastic Open mini-course was through the OERu Digital Skills for OER, this introduced me to WikiEducator, and the wonderful Open practitioner community.!
There is a great community of online learners beyond the walls of UBC. I just wish there was more time.

Hi Christine,
I have enrolled in several MOOCs over the years. I took one from John Hopkins University (via Coursera) about vaccine trials back when I worked in research ethics, and I found the content very valuable. I have enrolled in several since, but have not completed any, and found the content fairly variable in quality. I think that it really depends as to the instructor and the format of the course. I personally feel more value is derived from accredited education, at least in my career, but that's probably because I work as an academic!
