What effect would Open Design have on Industrial Espionage?
At the moment most companies value their intellectual property greatly, and in several cases are entirely dependent on it. However, with a globalized world we see far less opportunity to maintain the same standards across borders. Furthermore, as companies become more design oriented and outsource production, a channel is created to leak proprietary goods.
How would Open Design principles change this? Do you think that with Open Design, businesses would change their focus? Tesla, a company that has lauded Open Design, has described their challenge in consistently creating the best quality products with the least expensive mechanisms. Is this a model that is scaleable?
